Concrete Slab Work:

• Laying out the forms. Note the V-shaped rock pattern in the rear wall -- left there by a ravine about 10 million years ago.
• Forms and rebar grid for upper slab, 17 ft above street level.
• Forms and rebar grid for lower slab, 3 ft above street level.
• Lower rebar grid. The white sheet material is bentonite clay on a HDPE substrate. It takes the place of standard gravel bedding.
• Top and bottom slab locations.
• Pumping truck with 70ft boom, for delivering concrete.
• Boom arm and operator surgically placing concrete. Two teams with vibrators remove voids deep in the 18" pour.

Retaining Walls:

• Installing plywood back forms.
• North side forms, with fireplace box at top.
• Forms for upper and lower rear retaining walls.
• Form detail. The back forms mount directly to the dirt, eliminating over-excavation and backfill.
• Lateral braces at the top of the forms.
• Detail of the 3D drainage core for the retaining walls. This is used in place of the standard thick pea-gravel backfill used behind retaining walls.
• Drainage core applied to the plywood forms.
• South wall form with drainage core.
• Upper and lower rear retaining wall forms with drainage core.
• Forms coated with bentonite clay, and structural rebar curtains in place.

Shotcrete Placement:

• The hydraulically driven high pressure concrete pump.
• Shooting the high pressure concrete to the rebar curtains.
• Screeding the shotcrete to the piano wires.
• Applying the rubber float finish.
• The shotcrete crew, working their way vertically.
• The morning after. All shotcrete work complete.

Backfill:

• The 26ft deep crevice around the retaining walls, awaiting drainage rock.
• Transporting and placing the gravel, using a 140ft long chute.
• Finished placement of 80 tons of drainage rock.
